When a parent, grandparent or caregiver experience crisis or periods of high level stress, and if they are left without resources, support or relief, then the instances of child abuse or neglect significantly increase.
We help families in crisis and their children under age five through a special program in Davis. The Yolo Crisis Nursery provides emergency respite care in a safe environment for our community’s youngest and most vulnerable.
Sometimes women come to the nursery as they struggle to create new lives after leaving situations of domestic violence. Sometimes the caregiver is a grandparent who suddenly finds herself parenting again.
There are many more situations of hardship and transition and many types of families served in the more than 10 years that the Yolo Crisis Nursery has been in the community. In that time, we’ve helped nearly 3,000 children and infants. Ninety-eight percent of these children did not require intervention by Child Protective Services.
The Nursery and the families it serves depend on donors and volunteers. Read more about how you can help keep the doors open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
